Class Final

I have really enjoyed this class. One thing I especially like is that I found tools that are helpful to me now, such as Zoetero. Programs like Transana and WEFT QDA will be really helpful to me in the future. Here are a couple of suggestions:

1) If you ask people to blog for the assignments, I think it would be helpful for you to add a comment so that they know you've read it.
2) We kinda talked about this...but make sure the audio and video sessions have lengthy enough interviews. It may even be easier to provide students with interview questions. Maybe "getting to know you" kind of stuff about where they are from, what program they are in, etc.
3) I felt really challenged by the assignment on QACDAS. I really struggled with the article. I don't know if there is a different piece you could use or as an alternative, have the students reflect on 2 or 3 of the programs used in class to figure out how and if they would use them in the future.
4) Check out Vox. It may be a better blogging site.

Overall, I think the class was great (9 a.m. wasn't so wonderful) but I really enjoyed it. :) Thank you so much for everything you have done.

CAQDAS

I think what I am struggling most with, as I read this article is that I am not quite sure yet what I will be doing my research on and what qualitative methods I will be using. Since I do not know that, I have no idea what kind of coding I would be doing. Therefore, I am not sure which digital tools I would use. And, to be honest, my brain wasn't quite processing the information as I was reading it...maybe it's just end of quarter stress, but reading this stuff was like reading Greek to me. :) I will revisit again later.....

I do have to say that I like the list of questions on how to choose a CAQDAS package. Again, I think if I had a better idea of what I want to do for my research project, it will help me decide which I would actually use. I think I will spend some time talking about Tranana. First, I like the fact that you can use it on both audio and video files. Often, by video and audio taping an interview, you can key into subtle expressions that may show up on the video that may not be evident on the audio. Another nice aspect of this program is that it supports many different file types. I also like the possibility of time coding. This can be very valuable in reviewing your data for analysis.

So today, we were learning how to do video and audio in class. Here is the BRIEF video that I made. I decided I want to mess with them a bit more to see how they work.

This is so cool!

So Zotero is my new favorite thing. I have been downloading a whole bunch of articles for classes that I h ave papers to write for the end of the quarter. I am able to get the whole citation, add the abstract AND and a link to the actually PDF so I don't have to download it. Woohoo!

Zotero

So I decided, based on our class conversation today, that I was going to download and use Zotero. I have successfully downloaded it. Now, I am going to try to mess around with it. Hopefully it is as easy as it looks!
